Vegan MoFo : Day 7 : Organic Delivery Box
I try to buy local produce as much as possible, or at least organic. I’ve wanted to join a CSA for the past few years, but due to my work situation and other constraints I’ve missed out the past few years. There are lots of farmers’ markets and produce stands during the summer, but now that the weather is cold, and I’m working full-time, I’ve started ordering a weekly box of organic produce. It isn’t much more expensive than a trip to the grocery store, and I’m able to substitute more of this or that for things I won’t use. I’m also able to order other items like kale, bananas (fair trade!), and herbs. This week, I got a little busy, and forgot to make changes, so I ended up with exactly what was on the list. It’s actually good practice for making do with what I receive, since that’s what I’ll have to do if I end up getting a CSA share next year.
I’m not a big fan of beets, so I think I’ll try making a dessert with them–perhaps this Can’t Be Beet Chocolate Cake over at Fat Free Vegan. Maybe I’ll just freeze the rest of the puree for future desserts!
I use Washington’s Green Grocer. They’re very reliable, friendly, and quick to fix any rare mistakes. I’m also grateful that they travel out to the far edges of my county. Is there a similar service where you live?
